Dr. Sophia Kanaouti researches and teaches political science, media and social exclusion for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Crete and the Open University.
She is a 2018 Hannah Arendt Fellow and 2022 Emotions and Politics Fellow of the Institute of Critical Social Inquiry of the New School for Social Research, New York, as well as 2021 Democracy and Diversity Fellow of The Transregional Center for Democratic Studies of the same School. She has participated in several EU and Greek research projects that address gender and politics, and in projects about fake news and politics. She has published extensively on social exclusion, political theory and practices, gender and media, gender and politics.
Her interests include emotions and politics, gender, and culture in the service of democratic politics. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of Wales, Cardiff. Her YouTube channel, “Sophia Kanaouti”, hosts a series of short video essays on media and politics.
